in Jakarta...
Vorig jaar rond deze tijd waren wij net terug uit Indonesië. Tijdens ons bezoek aan de Aulia Foundation in Jakarta vertelde men ons dat in het regenseizoen delen van de sloppenwijken vaak onder water lopen. We hebben het dan niet over een paar centimeter of decimeter, maar over één, twee of meer meter. Bepaalde sloppenwijken zijn daar voor een deel op ingericht. Andere spoelen regelmatig helemaal weg. Afgaande op de berichten uit Jakarta en de informatie die we vorig jaar kregen, durf ik te zeggen dat deze wijk helemaal onder water staat.
In plaats dat de overheid structurele maatregelen neemt, laat ze deze mensen in de kou staan. Dit is een enorme kapitaalvernietiging. Want naast het opbouwen van de huizen en de kleine bedrijfjes, moeten ook de infrastructuur en de waterputten opnieuw worden aangelegd. Hoe deze vicieuze cirkel is te doorbreken, weet ik ook niet. Vast staat dat de mensen hulp nodig hebben.
