De grote donorshow
het lef van BNN...
De discussie is losgebarsten over de Grote Donorshow van BNN. Een terminale patiënt gaat een nier weggeven aan een van de drie patiënten die zich daarvoor zo goed mogelijk gaan presenteren. Omdat de omroep een interactief element wil inbouwen, kan het volk weer gaan sms-en. Denk echter niet dat het zin heeft, want uiteindelijk beslist de donor zelf aan wie ze de nier afstaat.
Wat je ook vindt van dit programma, BNN toont lef door op een controversiële manier aandacht te vragen voor het grote tekort aan donoren. De overheid praat al jaren en ondertussen loopt het aantal donoren sterk terug. Een forse discussie over dit onderwerp is dus zeer wenselijk. Helaas leven we in een maatschappij waarin een goede documentaire of een actie van organisaties als de nierstichting amper meer opvallen en resultaat boeken.
Wat mij betreft moet de overheid direct overgaan tot het geen bezwaar systeem. Dit betekent dat iedereen donor is tenzij de persoon registreert geen donor te willen zijn. Je hoeft dus geen donor te zijn, maar wordt wel gedwongen om er over na te denken. Of dit politiek haalbaar is, is sterk de vraag.
Dan kom ik tot twee next best opties.
1. Als donor beslis je zelf. Het moet direct afgelopen zijn dat de nabestaanden kunnen bepalen dat er toch niet wordt gedoneerd. Dat is merkwaardig en tast het zelfbeschikkingsrecht van de overledene aan. Wat mij betreft wordt dat bij wet verboden.
2. Iedereen boven de 18 die zelf geen donor is, komt niet in aanmerking voor transplantaties. Als je wordt gevraagd na te denken over het donorschap als je identiteitspapieren aanvraagt, mag je als maatschappij verlangen dat je daar ook serieus over nadenkt en een beslissing neemt. Het is bijzonder hypocriet om wel een nier te willen krijgen zonder de intentie te hebben om een orgaan af te staan of te beroerd te zijn om daarover na te denken. Wat mij betreft is het heel hard. Ben je niet in de drie maanden voordat de diagnose is gesteld geregistreerd als donor dan kom je niet in aanmerking voor donatie. Mocht je alsnog besluiten om donor te worden dan wordt dat ´beloond´ door je wel toe te laten op de wachtlijst, maar dan wel onderaan. Het kan niet zo zijn dat mensen wel uit de donorruif willen vreten, maar er zelf laconiek of afwijzend tegenover staan. Daar mogen sancties op staan, dat is de consequentie.
Het wordt tijd dat de politiek serieus knopen gaat doorhakken.
